From 4th to 8th May 1987, within a COURSE ON INTRODUCTION TO AUTOMATION IN ATC , given at the General Directorate of Civil Aviation Training Center in Madrid, D. Diez made the following presentations:
- Introduction to Data Processing;
- Flight Plan Data Processing Systems (FDPSs); and
- Advanced Aeronautical Systems:

- Satellite communications between fixed stations
The main purpose of the presentation was to explain the use of satellite fixed links to:
a) Upgrade the radar data distribution system to connect remote radar sites to ATC units; and
b) Provide cost efficient voice links between remote VHF stations and ATC units.
